now all i have to do is get a thesis done. and find a job and home for june.
hawaii was amazing. it is quite depressing to be back to work, snow, and school all within the same week. |

i am an idiot.
so we had our swimming test for SCUBA- because if you're going to take a SCUBA certification class they want to know that you can swim. duh.
we were supposed to do 9 laps.
margarita was swimming in front of me, so i figured that i didn't need to count (since i lost count after 2...)
except i didn;t notice when she got out.
so of course i'm one of the last people still swimming because I DID AN EXTRA LAP.
i fucking suck. but in a hilarious kind of way. |

senior year is starting off well.
i have a thesis adviser (yaay) so i will actually be able to do a thesis.
the crazy bitch who subletted from me this summer is gone, and most of the shit she left behind is slowly getting tossed.
we added a 4th person to the house who not only is cool shit, but also helps lower the rent a significant amount, which means that it is getting more likely that i will indeed be spending part of january in hawaii!
speaking of said 4th person, he is in a band and had a show at some restaurant last night in northampton. i expected the place to be kinda shitty as these were all like metal/rock bands that were playing. instead i enjoyed a meal of duck confit panini with carmelized onions and goat cheese, and an enormous plate of fries served with homemade ketchup and aioli. oooh delicious.
on that note i should go to class. or school, because i'm really just bringing brenden to class and doing nothing for an hour until my class starts. |

megan and i flew out to minnesota so she could go to orientation, and drop off lots of fall/winter clothes with my grandparents, instead of flying it all out in a few weeks.
this was pretty much supposed to be my vacation for the summer. a week at the mall of america with free reign of my grandpa's car, lotsa $$$ saved from constantly working, a few dates with my great uncle, etc.
megan got mono, so i played nurse erin all week.
i did get to take my little six year old cousin on all the rides at the mall though. the only downsides to that: 1) she has way more energy than i do. 2) everyone was asking if she was my daughter.
trying to head up to nh with brenden this week. i'm not sure how long i will last- i'm calling it "roughing it" because they don't have a shower, only a lake.

amherst is fucking gorgeous in the spring. i love driving around and being able to see mountains in every direction. i love that hippies decided to plant flowering trees EVERYWHERE. the entire town is GREEN, pink, yellow, white.
unfortunately by the time finals are over and i can go enjoy the scenery, the flowering trees will be bare and the grass will be fading to that summertime dry yellow color. blah
please keep your fingers crossed for me. i sent an email to a new professor begging for research. i would love to get this position.
i'm so glad to be almost done with junior year.

casper (my car for all of you who don't know) shit the bed this weekend. and by shit the bed, i mean i am driving myself and three other people to the whately diner... approximately 14 miles away from my home in amherst. i noticed that i was having trouble breaking, but i figured that was just because i wasn't focusing or something. as i pull into the diner, i smell burning rubber. and hear a weird dragging noise.
the boys get out and take a look and point out that the underbody of my car is resting on the rear tire.
i had the car towed back to the house which was one of the weirdest experiences ever. maybe because the kid towing my car was probably high, admitted to be running on 2 hours of sleep, was swerving alllll over the road and talking about how my seatbelt was essentially the only thing holding my car in position.
fortunately, while cleaning out the car, i found my student id, so i can take the bus without hassle.

its that time of year again: time to register for fall classes
this year is probably the hardest in regards to picking classes. usually i've just taken required classes and whatever gen eds fit in to my schedule.
now all i have left to do is:
10 credits.
a thesis.
a deans book course.
and an honors upper level chem class.
i've decided not to graduate early. i easily could. all of those requirements that i have left are exactly 10 credits. i'm going to hang around though. partially because i don't want to have to work in the lab this summer to finish thesis research. partially because if i graduate early, i am no longer a student and thus have no health insurance and would probably have to get a real job asap because i'm not sure i would trust bertucci's health insurance. partially because i feel like all i do is classwork and maybe college should be about something else. perhaps partying like a rock star? taking time to walk my dog? keeping my room/the kitchen clean?
brie convinced me the other day that haven was going to close due to shitty attendance. so despite having a cold, and an exam the next morning, i decide to go to the club, arguing that a few gin and tonics would be better for my health than sleep or cold medicine. turns out that it was an april fools prank, something i should have expected from a goth club. That wasn't the first prank of the night either. around midnight, they turned on all the lights and played the typical closing song: a prank would only fool you for 2.9 seconds, and only if you were severely intoxicated. at this point i'm rolling my eyes. how much lamer could these pranks get? .... and then the dj rick rolled everyone. oh ps, i hope you've heard of rick rolling, otherwise that story sucks balls.

No worries kids, i haven't imbibed all day...though I should be, because I have a lab group meeting today to clean glassware, fun fun. Hopefully noone told my PI that its my birthday: we celebrated Burcu's last week with a very awkward group meeting involving pastries and talking about russian birthday traditions.
looking forward to this weekend: friday= megan's birthday, so going with bren and amanda into boston.
saturday is the founaris/stark family st. patricks day feast, on the cape.

probably gonna find some time either this weekend or next moving out of my room: my parents are giving it to my brother. i guess it's kind of called for, since we definitely got the house here for next year....walk in closet here i come!!
also my sister is turning into a prom whore. she's going with liz hunter to the senior prom, and to this other girl's junior prom. mom thinks she's a lesbo now, and i'm only encouraging her in this belief. not so much because i think my sister is a muff diver, more so because it will distract my parents from how i'm such a 'bad kid' now.
staying in western mass for the summer. dubin offered me some $$ to continue being a slave in his lab. should be fun, especially since some of the other chem kids are hanging around doing research. i should probably call target and quit at some point, but i'm still hanging on to my discount. oh well.
